PARKER, Colo., Feb. 20, 2013 – The Solheim Cup is pleased to announce that Rolex will once again serve as the Official Timepiece and Global Partner of the 2013 Solheim Cup, scheduled for Aug. 13-18 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo. The Swiss watch brand’s support is part of an on-going partnership that is set to last for several years.

Rolex has a multi-layered involvement with women’s golf that has continued to evolve and increase over the years. The leading Swiss watchmaker has been a sponsor and partner of the Solheim Cup since the beginning in 1990.

“Rolex has been an amazing partner of the Solheim Cup since its inception and of the LPGA for decades, and we are thrilled to have the company as one of our two Global Partners once again for 2013,” 2013 Solheim Cup Tournament Director Becky Newell said. “It is sponsors like Rolex that help make the Solheim Cup great, and we appreciate Rolex’s loyalty and dedication to our one-of-a-kind event. When people think of Rolex, they think of quality and excellence, and that is what the Solheim Cup is all about.”

Rolex’s brand presence will be visible throughout Colorado Golf Club during the Solheim Cup, and Rolex clocks will keep time on the property during tournament week. Rolex also has a countdown clock on – a helpful feature that counts down the days and hours until this year’s event begins.

More than 100,000 spectators are expected for the 2013 Solheim Cup, which pits the top 12 women’s professional golfers from Europe against the United States’ top dozen stars. These teams are led by captains Liselotte Neumann for Europe and Meg Mallon for the United States. Europe won the event in 2011 in Ireland, but the U.S. Team has never lost on home soil (6-0), making Colorado Golf Club a promising setting for intense competition.

Leading brand of the Swiss watch industry, Rolex, headquartered in Geneva, enjoys an unrivalled reputation for quality and expertise the world over. Its Oyster watches, all certified as chronometers for their precision, are symbols of excellence, performance and prestige. Pioneer in the development of the wristwatch as early as 1905, the brand is at the origin of numerous major watchmaking innovations, such as the Oyster, the first waterproof wristwatch, launched in 1926, and the Perpetual rotor self-winding mechanism introduced in 1931. Rolex has registered more than 400 patents in the course of its history. A truly integrated manufacturing company, Rolex designs, develops and produces in-house all the essential components of its watches, from the casting of the gold alloys to the machining, crafting, assembly and finishing of the movement, case, dial and bracelet. Rolex is also actively involved in supporting the arts, exploration, sports, the spirit of enterprise and the environment through a broad palette of sponsoring activities, as well as philanthropic programs.

The Solheim Cup combines the tradition and prestige of the game of golf with passion for one’s country. This biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition features the best U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European members from the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The Solheim Cup is named in honor of Karsten Solheim, the founder of Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, which makes PING golf equipment. In 1990, the Solheim family, in conjunction with the LPGA and the LET, developed the concept and became the title sponsor for The Solheim Cup, professional golf’s international match-play competition for women. Held every two years, the event has grown into the most prestigious international women’s professional golf team event. The Solheim Cup is the most highly coveted trophy in women’s professional golf team competition; some of the most memorable moments in women’s golf have happened during Solheim Cups, and berths on the U.S. and European teams are highly coveted by players from both organizations.

The 2013 Solheim Cup will take place August 13-18 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, CO. The European Team enters the competition holding the Cup and will need 14 points to retain it, with the U.S. Team needing 14½ points to regain the coveted Waterford Crystal prize. The U.S. squad holds an 8-4 lead in the series, which began in 1990, and is undefeated (6-0) on U.S. soil.
