About the Solheim Cup

The 2017 Solheim Cup will be hosted at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, Iowa, August 14 – 20, 2017.

The Solheim Cup is a biennial tournament contested by teams of 12 players representing Europe and the United States. The inaugural Solheim Cup was staged in 1990 and the golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim was instrumental in its introduction and why it is called the Solheim Cup..

2017 will be the 15th match and of the 14 matches contested, the United States have won 9 and Europe have won 5.

SOLHEIM CUP EVENT FORMAT:
- DAY ONE (August 18) – four foursomes matches AM / four fourball matches PM
- DAY TWO (August 19) – four foursomes matches AM / four fourball matches PM
- DAY THREE (August 20) – 12 singles matches

The most exciting event in women’s professional golf is returning to the Midwest in 2017. Des Moines Golf and Country Club, home of the 1999 U.S. Senior Open Championship which drew a record 252,800 spectators, will host the 15th contest of The Solheim Cup, matching the best players from Europe against the best from the United States.

Des Moines Golf and Country Club will be the first 36-hole facility in the United States to host The Solheim Cup, allowing the PING Junior Solheim Cup to be held at the same venue. The PING Junior Solheim Cup, patterned after The Solheim Cup, features the top 12 girls from Europe against those from the United States.
